Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences of the Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas (ICE-HT/FORTH)
ICE-HT was established in 1984 as an Independent Academic Institute, and became one of the founding Institutes of FORTH in 1987. During its operation ICE-HT has been developed into a world-leading centre for the advancement of high quality scientific knowledge in the fields of chemical engineering sciences. ICE-HT conducts fundamental and technological research that is focused on cutting-edge areas of science, specific needs of industry and the environment. The R&D activities of the Institute are concentrated along three major Areas of Research and Development: 1)Nanotechnology / Advanced Materials, 2) Energy / Environment and 3) Biosciences / Biotechnology which are supported by research groups with advanced expertise in state-of-the-art scientific and technological fields. Furthermore, ICE-HT provides a wide spectrum of technical services (instrumental analysis of chemical composition and physicochemical properties, quality assessment, machine and electronics shops, etc. - Topic 1.3.1-2024 (IA) – Developing cost-effective and sustainable technologies adapted to Mediterranean Food Systems to decrease food loss and waste.

The Laboratory of Applied Molecular Spectroscopy (LAMS) belongs to the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (ICE-HT) located in Patras; it is one of the 8 founding Institutes of FORTH (Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas), with well-organized facilities, highly qualified personnel and a reputation as a top-level research center worldwide.
In LAMS, a wide range of Physical Chemistry and Materials Characterization research is carried out on different aspects of specialty spectroscopic (bio)probes, advanced modified (bio)polymers and risk assessment. For instance there is long expertise on the investigation of (1) Migration Control of Nano-Structured Materials Incorporated Biopolymer Packaging, (2) Quantification of the Release of Food Packaging Components into relevant Simulants, (3) Food packaging materials - T-indicators/sensors for food safety.
Our team, headed by Dr. G. Voyiatzis is fully equipped (or have access) with (to) advanced analytical equipment for physicochemical characterization: several Raman microprobes (UV-Vis HR-800 Labram and T-64000 Jobin Ivon - Horiba), FT-Raman and FT-IR (BRUKER), SE(R)RS, DLS, Z-sizer/potential, FE-SEM, EDX, XRD, XPS/UPS, UV/Vis, BET, DSC, TGA, FFF, Atmospheric Simulation & Exposure Chamber, ADME.For more information please see http://www.iceht.forth.gr/staff/voyiatzis.html or contact to [email protected]
