Scientific collaboration on sustainable agri-food innovation

The National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) in Morocco is a leading organization focused on agricultural research. The mission of the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) is to undertake research for agricultural development. It is a public establishment whose origins date back to 1914 with the creation of the first official agricultural research services. It has recently undergone a structural reorganisation aimed at modernising its management process.
The aim of the new organisation is to provide the institution with :
- appropriate strategic planning to strengthen its capacity to adapt, react and anticipate social demand for agricultural research;
- a policy of proximity, based on the regionalisation and deconcentration of research;
- an integrated monitoring, evaluation and control system;
- integrated and rational resource management;
- a policy of adding value to its products;
- a coherent information and cooperation policy.
INRA operates through ten regional agricultural research centres and 23 experimental estates spread across the country and covering the country's various agrosystems.
INRA's research projects are defined with the participation of regional partners, clients and prescribers. They are carried out by thirty research units housed in the Regional Centres. They are supervised at central level by ten scientific departments with a disciplinary focus.

INRA4Food is a team comprising of professionals with diverse backgrounds such as Engineers, Post-docs, and Professors. The team has extensive experience in Agronomy, Horticulture, Post-harvest Technology, and Food Chemistry. INRA4Food has been actively involved in various national and European projects, including PRIMA and Horizon Europe. The team has a strong network of farmers and industry partners who participate in the projects, and they have access to well-equipped laboratories. INRA4Food is interested in collaborating with others on various topics related to their expertise. These topics include increasing the resilience of the agri-food supply chain (fruit trees in particular), restoring, and returning degraded lands in the Mediterranean region into productive agroecosystems, coupling renewable energy sources with circular farming systems, and assessing novel antimicrobial food packaging and coating materials to reduce food waste and improve safety in the Mediterranean food supply chain.
