The University “Mediterranea” of Reggio Calabria (UNIRC) is located in Southern Italy (Calabria Region) and has a strategic focus on the Mediterranean basin with particular attention to North African countries. UNIRC is involved in many projects as H2020, LIFE and Interreg, plus many national projects funded directly or indirectly by the European Union. Cooperation between university and Industry plays an important part of the activity.
- Topic 1.1.1-2024 (IA) Sustainability of Mediterranean irrigated agriculture through the implementation of WEFE Nexus approach.
-
Conservation agriculture and management of multiple cropping systems (mainly intercropping) are the main research themes. Research activity is particularly focusing on restoring soil functioning to support productivity of arable cropping systems (such as cereal-horticultural rotations) under low-input management (such as organic systems). Monitoring on crops (morpho-physiological measures and yield factors) and soil (mainly chemical and biochemical variables) are carried out in field experiment and supported by a lab activity. Soil CO2 emissions are also monitored.
These skills and experiences are made available to a partnership to help define a WEFE Nexus approach proposal for water resource management in different Mediterranean scenarios. -
