CNR is the biggest public research institution in Italy. ISAFOM Institute research is focused on the study and analysis of the physical, chemical and biological processes that determine the functioning and dynamics of agro-ecosystems in Mediterranean climate environments, for the qualitative and quantitative improvement of production, for the optimization of the use of natural resources, and for the enhancement of the functions of agricultural and forestry systems. ISAFOM in Perugia (central Italy) has specific research topics related to (i) sustainable soil management (ie sustainable agriculture, C farming, soil fertility), (ii) resource recovery from organic residues and circular bioeconomy (ie anaerobic digestion, composting, biofertilizers), and (iii) sustainable biopolymers application in agri-food systems (ie assessment of biodegradability, chemical characterization).
- Topic 1.2.1-2024 (IA) Transformative Adaptation of Mediterranean dry farming systems using water harvesting techniques to address extreme drought in arid and semi-arid environments. | Topic 2.2.1 (RIA ) Revitalizing agroforestry practices for sustainable land use and climate resilience in the Mediterranean region
- Topic 1.3.1-2024 (IA) – Developing cost-effective and sustainable technologies adapted to Mediterranean Food Systems to decrease food loss and waste. | Topic 2.3.1-2024 (RIA ) Leveraging urban and local food systems for sustainable food systems transformation

Here at CNR-ISAFOM (Perugia, central Italy), we are looking to participate in consortiums to build strenght PRIMA proposals addressing topics of circular bioeconomy (soil management, resource recovery, biopolymers). We can count on expert research and administrative staff and on established facilities (chemistry labs, circular economy lab, micropropagation lab, experimental field with a genetic collection of olive trees, greenhouses).
