The "Centre de Développement des Energies Renouvelables CDER " is a research center resulting from the restructuring of the High Commissioner for Research, established on 22 March 1988. It is a scientific and technological public research institution (EPST) responsible of conducting research and development programs, scientific and technological, of energetic systems using solar, geothermal and biomass energy and application of this energies for water treatment, desalination, biofuels...
The CDER as a scientific center, actively participates in the national program for research and technological development, as defined by law and policy program projection on scientific research and technological development.
The CDER, since its creation, works on the application of this strategy through the deployment and integration of several national and international projects and pilot projects at Algerian national level. Three research units are affiliated to the CDER:
- Applied Research Unit for Renewable Energies (URAER),
- Research Unit for Renewable Energies in Saharan Regions (URERMS),
- Development Unit of Solar Equipments (UDES), " Unité de Développement des Equipements Solaires"
*Description of Chair/Institute/Research Group*
The "Unité de Développement des Equipements Solaires (UDES/CDER)" incorporates two main research divisions. The first one is the division of Cooling and water treatment systems using Renewable Energy. The research topics of this division aim to use solar energy for the functioning of brackish and seawater desalination and wastewater purification processes ( reverse osmosis, multi-effect desalination, multistage flashing ,…) and also for cooling and air-conditionning systems. The second division is of Renewable Energies Equipment with the main missions to conduct and optimize the solar energy conversion processes ( photovoltaic and thermal solar systems) and to develop the necessary know-how and expertise, starting from the study to the manufacturing of the solar equipment and the implementing of such systems. - Topic 2.1.1-2024 (RIA ) Effective water accounting approaches under crisis conditions: climate change and external shocks
- Topic 1.2.1-2024 (IA) Transformative Adaptation of Mediterranean dry farming systems using water harvesting techniques to address extreme drought in arid and semi-arid environments.
- Topic 1.3.1-2024 (IA) – Developing cost-effective and sustainable technologies adapted to Mediterranean Food Systems to decrease food loss and waste.
