Çukurova University Agriculture Faculty Field Crops Department is located in Adana, in the south of Turkey, where Mediterranean climate prevails. The department is divided into 3 main branches of science: cereals, industrial and forage crops. However, research activities have been carried out for many years in sub-sections such as plant breeding, turf grasses, grain legumes, and bioenergy crops within the department. To date, many research projects have been carried out within the framework of university-industry cooperation, and as a result, many new varieties with high yield and quality have been improved. In addition, training on sustainable agricultural practices have been arranged for farmers and public and private sector representatives on a regular basis within the department.
- Topic 1.1.1-2024 (IA) Sustainability of Mediterranean irrigated agriculture through the implementation of WEFE Nexus approach.
- Topic 1.2.1-2024 (IA) Transformative Adaptation of Mediterranean dry farming systems using water harvesting techniques to address extreme drought in arid and semi-arid environments. | Topic 2.2.1 (RIA ) Revitalizing agroforestry practices for sustainable land use and climate resilience in the Mediterranean region
- Topic 1.3.1-2024 (IA) – Developing cost-effective and sustainable technologies adapted to Mediterranean Food Systems to decrease food loss and waste.

Our research team has conducted studies related to forage and bioenergy production from perennial grasses, legumes, sorghum and maize under Mediterranean climatic conditions in Turkey for many years. Additionally, we have sufficient knowledge and experience about cover/inter/or mixed cropping, crop rotation, and organic fertilization which increase soil organic matter, carbon sequestration, land use efficiency and biodiversity. In this context, we are open to collaborate as a partner on research projects related to organic waste management in agroecosystems, forage/bioenergy production in agroforestry ecosystems, soil restoration and reclamation, and renewable energy production from organic wastes.
