CREA is an Italian research organization dedicated to agri-food supply chains. It operates as a legal entity under public law and is supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (Masaf). The scientific activity covers crops, livestock, fishery, forestry, agro-industry, food science and socio-economics. The commitment deals with the great challenges of the twenty-first century related to food production sustainability, following the principles of the circular, bio-based economy through a multidisciplinary approach that includes innovation transfer.
In CREA, 12 Research Centers (6 related to specific supply chains and 6 dedicated to horizontal topics) are present, forming a capillary network of structures throughout the country (https://www.crea.gov.it/en/about-crea).
CREA-CI (Research Centre for Cereal and Industrial Crops) mission deals with cereal and industrial crop supply chains for food, feed and non-food applications, using a multidisciplinary approach. Focus is kept on biodiversity preservation, exploitation and its valorization into suitable pasta, bread and bakery cereal foods chain and into recovering bioactive substances by food waste for the development of new cereal-based products rich in nutraceuticals.CREA-IT (Research Centre for Engineering and Agro-Food Processing) carries out activities in the field of agroindustrial and food processing, through studies on technological innovation and product quality, with a view to an integrated and sustainable supply chain. CREA-IT deals with the metabolic and sensory characterization of both fresh and processed agro-food products along the supply chain, processing optimization through traditional and innovative technologies, shelf-life studies for quality improvement, development of new products, and recovery of waste and by-products.

We are interested in participating in a consortium to develop solutions for the reduction of food loss and waste; we offer our expertise in using vegetable waste or by-products to create value-added products such as new ingredients for new functional cereal-based products. We can produce dried ingredients and products utilizing the solar-dryer technology, an environmentally friendly and green technology, that could be particularly adapted in areas with limited access to electricity. Moreover, we can perform the nutritional and sensory quality characterization of the novel products.
