Scientific and Technical Research Center on Arid Regions (C.R.S.T.R.A)
Is a public institution of a scientific and technical nature (EPST) established by Decree N°. 91-478 of December 14th, 1991, as amended by decree N°185 of December 01st, 2003 and governed by executive decree N° 11-396 of November 24th, 2011. CRSTRA aims to carry out scientific and technical research programs on arid regions and/or regions threatened with drought or desertification; to undertake and/or participate in any multidisciplinary research on Arid Zones; to constitute a scientific and technical databank on arid regions and to process, to store and to disseminate these data; to participate in any research aimed at understanding and fighting against human vulnerability to environmental changes. Its missions are articulated through various activities. Strategic Directions Axes: Optimizing the use of water resources, Saharan agriculture, Steppe and desertification, Climate / Environment, Socioeconomic aspects. - Topic 1.1.1-2024 (IA) Sustainability of Mediterranean irrigated agriculture through the implementation of WEFE Nexus approach.
- Topic 1.2.1-2024 (IA) Transformative Adaptation of Mediterranean dry farming systems using water harvesting techniques to address extreme drought in arid and semi-arid environments.
- Topic 1.3.1-2024 (IA) – Developing cost-effective and sustainable technologies adapted to Mediterranean Food Systems to decrease food loss and waste.

Our centre is seeking collaboration with research institutions, universities, and organizations to further our mission to address water shortage under climate change in arid zones and the challenges posed by extreme drought in arid environments. In light of the increasing complexities within the food industry and the shared commitment to fostering positive change, I am excited about the prospect of working together. Our proposed collaboration aims to enhance various aspects of the food system, with a focus on Developing cost-effective and sustainable technologies adapted to Mediterranean Food Systems to decrease food loss and waste. We believe that by combining our unique strengths, expertise, and resources, we can make significant strides in advancing a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient food system. I am eager to discuss this proposal further and explore how our organizations can work hand in hand to achieve these shared objectives. That through collaboration, we aspire to change and learn about new transformative adaptation strategies and create a comprehensive and scalable approach that mitigates the impact of climate change and ensures the long-term viability of Mediterranean irrigated and dry farming systems.
