The Egyptian Agricultural Research Center (ARC)) is a vital institution dedicated to advancing agricultural practices, developing new technologies, and ensuring sustainable agricultural development in Egypt. It conducts applied and basic research to enhance productivity, reduce production costs, and transfer new technologies to the farming community. The ARC's research activities include field experiments on irrigation levels, genome-wide analysis, pest management, and the study of crop varieties. Over the years, it has achieved significant milestones in developing new varieties, improving agronomic practices, and enhancing food processing techniques. The ARC envisions achieving a comprehensive agricultural renaissance in Egypt by 2030.
- Topic 2.2.1 (RIA ) Revitalizing agroforestry practices for sustainable land use and climate resilience in the Mediterranean region
- Topic 1.3.1-2024 (IA) – Developing cost-effective and sustainable technologies adapted to Mediterranean Food Systems to decrease food loss and waste.
-
It involves leveraging agroforestry practices to address environmental and socio-economic objectives, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and enhance the resilience of agricultural systems. Promote and implement integrated, biodiverse processes to increase yields, decrease harmful effects, and advance understanding of the complex interactions involved in increasing food production while minimizing damage and building resilience in farming systems, particularly in the Mediterranean region. The collaboration may focus on implementing IPM strategies tailored to the specific agroforestry and food system contexts in the Mediterranean region, with an emphasis on long-term prevention of pests and their damage. This could include promoting the use of pest-resistant plant varieties, monitoring pest and disease incidence, and making judicious decisions on when and how to initiate controls. Furthermore, enhance the resilience of agricultural systems, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and contribute to sustainable land use and food system development in the Mediterranean region.
