Looking for partners to form a consortium on Novel antimicrobial food packaging and coating materials

The University of Calabria (www.unical.it), situated in Southern Italy, is a public institution established in 1972. The University is currently organized into 14 Departments that strongly focus their attention to research which is carried out at the national and international level.
Within department DIMES there is a specific expertise in transport phenomena analysis, food process modelling, rheological analysis of complex materials, investigation of innovative packaging systems, kinetic and constitutive equations development, food quality and safety indices.

We are interested in submitting a proposal on novel antimicrobial food packaging and coating materials; we are available to act as either coordinator (being fully supported by the Technological transfer office of our university) or partner. Our research activities focus on rheological and physical characterisation of complex systems in food area (hydrogel, organogels, emulsions – both structured and unstructured), preparation and characterisation of edible coatings and films based on biopolymers added with antimicrobial/antiviral agents. We can perform both mechanical and physical investigations on film-forming solutions and final films and antimicrobial activity tests.
