We are interested in joining, as a partner, a project in the Topic 1.2.1 (IA) Increasing environmental and socio-economic performance of small-scale farming systems through improvements in organizational aspects and new value chain governance models.
Topic 2.2.1 (RIA) Up-scaling field practices based on organic agriculture to increase ecosystem services and biodiversity, to adapt the small farming systems to climate change and to increase farmers’ incomes.
Topic 1.4.1 (IA) Leveraging knowledge on the Nexus management of Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems resources in the Mediterranean region: from concepts to practical solutions.
Topic 1.1.1 (RIA) Sustainable soil and water management for combating land degradation and desertification and promoting ecosystem restoration.
Our proposal will focus on farming system design in dry regions (climate variability) in the context of climate change and food/nutritional security. Our collaboration will emphasize the role of crop diversities, farmers practices and water availability (intra-field, intra-farm and across-farms) in improving efficiency of both water and nutrient use by legume-cereals cropping system.
DESCRIPTION OF YOUR ORGANISATION:
The University of Khemis Miliana is a public institution under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria. It is organized into fifteen research laboratories. Among these, the research laboratory ERP has a wide experience in mandated crops (legumes, cereals, etc.) biotechnology, plant breeding, genetic resources, crop protection and conservation agriculture. Having the necessary infrastructure for plant research as well as wide cooperation with stakeholders.

3. Partner in international project: FABATROPIMED (2011-2015: Ecological services of legumes for nitrogen and phosphorus biogeochemical cycles and carbon sequestration in cereal cropping systems in Africa and the Mediterranean basin
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area will devise new R&I approaches to improve water availability and sustainable agriculture production in a region heavily distressed by climate change, urbanisation and population growth
