Joining a consortium on Water Desalination and added-value resources recovery
We are the research group on Electrochemical Engineering of the UPV (Spain). We have experience on the application of electrochemical processes, more specifically electromembrane reactors (including electrodialysis) for desalination and selective recovery of nutrients and ions of added value present in effluents, etc., and advanced electrochemical oxidation processes for removing pollutants of emerging concern.

Topic 1.2.1-2026 (IA) Next Generation of Sustainable and Alternative Animal Feeds for Circular and Resilient Mediterranean Farming Systems

KEYWORDS

electrodialysis, membranes, advanced oxidation, electromembrane processes, circular processes, selective water treatment

DESCRIPTION

We can contribute to any research project where the recovery of ions of added value (e.g. nutrients) and desalination using electrodialysis with selective membranes could help to achieve the project goals. We are experts in electrochemical reactors and have participated in several projects related to these topics. These processes can be applied either to recover and concentrate desired ionic species or to remove pollutants or non-desired ions to allow water recovery and reuse. We also work on advanced oxidation processes for the removal of organic contaminants of emerging concern (pesticides, pharmaceuticals) that would allow protection of water courses. In both cases, only electricity and smart electrodes and membranes are used for the processes, which implies minimal addition of chemicals and a high degree of circularity. ,are the research group on Electrochemical Engineering of the UPV (Spain).
