The research group of Veterinary Physiology of the Department of Veterinary Sciences of University of Messina is involved in research projects evaluating relience capacity of animals reared in Sicily. Many aspect of animals responce to the climate changes has been considered, suh as, the thermal stress, the oxidative stress and immuno-inflammatory responce.
nowaday, the research team is involved in a national project aimed to verify the influence of breed, management and climate conditions on the amount of goat’s milk proteins, and the influence of these variation on the gut microbiota of infant assuming goats’ milk. the researh group would like to improve the knownledge on autochthonous goats’ breed, its resilience capacity and their role in Siciliann farming.

The use of Girgentana goats, typical of the Sicilian territory, is proposed to evaluate the effect on animal production in subjects fed with locally produced germinated cereals. On the enrolled animals, physiological parameters, with particular attention to the stress oxidative markers, and milk production will be monitored to assess the role of germinated cereals on the resilience of goats breed in Sicily.
