Prof. Sanaa Zebakh, Director of PRIMA

PRIMA is really pleased to welcome Prof. Sanaa Zebakh as the new Director of PRIMA, the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area, as she joined PRIMA’s team in September 2026.

Prof. Zebakh brings over 23 years of experience in Euro-Mediterranean scientific cooperation. She has been involved with PRIMA since its inception, serving as Director of Cooperation and Partnerships at Morocco’s Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation. Her deep understanding of PRIMA’s mission and structure positions her to lead the programme forward.

Looking Ahead

Gratitude to PRIMA’s previous Director Octavi Quintana and Deputy Director Omar Amawi who have been by PRIMA’s side since its very beginnings, supporting its growth and helping shape the journey that has brought us to where we are today. Their legacy continues as Prof. Zebakh leads the programme toward deeper regional cooperation and tangible impact.

Vision for PRIMA

Prof. Zebakh is convinced that the Mediterranean’s challenges, water, food, farming system, climate, can only be solved through genuine regional cooperation rooted in mutual trust and respect for the voices of all participating countries, North and South alike. Her commitment is to transform that cooperation into concrete, lasting change.
