Have Your Say on the Future of European Partnerships and Mediterranean Research & Innovation

After the Call for evidence, launched this summer, The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the future of European Partnerships under the next EU research and innovation framework, Horizon Europe 2028–2034:

The consultation covers Joint Undertakings, Article 185 initiatives and the thematic priorities that could shape the European Partnership landscape for the coming years.

For the PRIMA and wider Mediterranean research and innovation community, the consultation represents an important opportunity to share experiences, identify priorities and highlight the role that long-term international cooperation can play in addressing shared challenges.

Who can participate?

The consultation is open to everyone. The European Commission is particularly encouraging contributions from national and regional administrations, universities and research organisations, industry, technology centres, SMEs, start-ups and civil society organisations.

Why does it matter for the Mediterranean?

The future of European Partnerships will have important implications for research and innovation cooperation across the Mediterranean.

The region faces interconnected challenges in areas including water resilience, sustainable agriculture, food systems and the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus. Addressing these challenges requires cooperation across countries, disciplines and sectors, as well as sustained investment in research and innovation.

The consultation provides an opportunity for Mediterranean stakeholders to demonstrate the value of these partnerships and share views on how future programmes can better support cooperation between European and Mediterranean countries.

It is also a chance to contribute ideas on how European Partnerships can become simpler, more effective and more impactful, while mobilising the critical mass needed to translate research and innovation into practical solutions.

Have your say

The results of the consultation will feed into the European Commission’s Impact Assessment and help inform the design of the future European Partnership landscape for 2028–2034.

Stakeholders across the Mediterranean research and innovation community are therefore encouraged to take part and ensure that the region’s priorities, experience and expertise are reflected in the discussion.

 Deadline: 16 October 2026
