The Scientific and Technical Research Center on Arid Regions "Omar EL-BERNAOUI" (C.R.S.T.R.A.) is a Public Scientific and Technical Establishment (E.P.S.T.). Established by Decree No. 91-478 of December 14, 1991, amended and supplemented by Decree No. 03-458 of December 1, 2003, and governed by Executive Decree No. 11-396 of November 24, 2011, which sets the standard status of the public scientific and technological establishment. This center, which has legal personality and financial autonomy, is under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The topics researched are: Water quality, ressources water, Methods of purification of brackish water and wastewater by: Coagulation-floculation, Electrocoagulation, Adsorption, membranes; Filtartion, Sustainable Water Management, Smart plants of treatmant water, Efficient Water Resources, Nano Techniques and Advanced Materials .
