The Scientific and Technical Research Center on Arid Regions ''Omar EL-BERNAOUI'' (C.R.S.T.R.A.) is a Public Scientific and Technical Establishment (E.P.S.T.). Created by decree No. 91-478 of December 14, 1991, modified and supplemented by decree No. 03-458 of December 1, 2003 and governed by executive decree No. 11-396 of November 24, 2011 establishing the standard status of the public scientific and technological establishment. This center, which has legal personality and financial autonomy, is placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Developpement of Hybrid biochar-Based Adsorbents for micropollutants in the field of water decontamination using biochar or biochar-based materials in order to remove pesticides, drugs, heavy metals, and phosphates from contaminated aqueous environments. Also, the removal of phosphorus from wastewater using biochar is considered. This removal can be a key controlling factor for the wastewater, which is obtained as a residual of agricultural activities. Indeed, due to the excessive use of chemical fertilizers, eutrophication in such kinds of wastewater can be a serious challenge.
