Eilat is part of the 112 cities mission aimed to reach climate neutrality by 2030. The uniqueness of the city lies in its ecological assets, the scarce coral reef, the remoteness from other communities, the extreme desert weather conditions, and its achievements as a leader in energy efficiency - 100% of the city's daytime electricity is from renewable sources.
The Eilat-Eilot Environmental Unit is leading numerous R&D projects and innovative pilots in the fields of tourism, food security, water, desertech, waste management, sustainable development, green energy and smart transportation. Sustainable development is our key priority. We have a designated Smart City team of professionals who are dedicated to implementing innovative and sustainable solutions in the Eilat-Eilot region.

As part of our goal to become a climate neutral city, reducing food loss and waste is one of our top priorities. Knowing the importance of the tourism industry in Eilat, we are aiming to formalize the participation of the city's hotels in informal markets and strengthen the circular economy in the Eilat-Arava region. Thus, we are looking for partners who would be able to support us in tailoring the technical part of the project and who would be interested in demonstrating how to better connect informal markets to preponderant sectors like tourism. Eilat could be a demo site working with the tourism industry while other demo sites could focus on different sectors.
