DESCRIPTION

Within the scope of PRIMA projects, I would like to be involved in water reuse as well as water/wastewater treatment issues. I have particularly experience on the removal of micropollutants (such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides) from water and wastewater. I have a BSc. degree in Chemical Engineering and MSc. and Ph.D degrees in Environmental Engineering. The major part of my studies is within the scope of environmental (bio)technology with a special emphasis on nitrification, denitrification, biofilm kinetics, activated sludge kinetics, treatment of domestic wastewaters, industrial wastewaters and leachate, inhibitory effects of specific organics and heavy metals on biological treatment systems. I have also conducted many studies on combined adsorption and biological removal of specific toxic and/or slowly biodegradable organic pollutants such as chlorinated compounds, pharmaceuticals and pesticides from water or wastewater. Besides journal publications, I have authored the book “Activated Carbon for Water and Wastewater Treatment: Integration of Adsorption and Biological Treatment” (2011, ISBN: 978-3-527-32471-2, Wiley-VCH). I am also the editor of the book “Hazardous Pollutants in Biological Treatment Systems: Fundamentals and a Guide to Experimental Research (2017, IWA Publishing, ISBN: 9781780407708). In the last years I have also focused on the reuse alternatives of stormwater arising from industries. Since in Türkiye there is a great concern about earthquakes, the reuse of stormwater or other types of water is crucial in such cases.
