DESCRIPTION

We are seeking interdisciplinary partners (universities, research institutes, SMEs, NGOs, and policy bodies) to co-develop and pilot Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven Digital Twin solutions for sustainable water and farming systems under climate stress in Mediterranean contexts. Our proposed collaboration aims to: Integrate nature-based solutions (e.g. groundwater recharge, wetland restoration) into an AI-enhanced digital twin platform for adaptive water management (Thematic Area 1 – Topic 1.1.1), Quantify and simulate water footprint and virtual water trade-offs using AI and agent-based modeling to inform regional agricultural and water policies (Thematic Area 1 – Topic 2.1.1), Co-design sustainable, biodiversity-friendly farming systems in wetland landscapes through multi-objective optimization of crop patterns, nutritional value, water use, and economic return, supported by AI-based forecasting and decision tools (Thematic Area 2 – Topic 1.2.1). We offer expertise in: Hydrological and crop modeling (SWAT+, AquaCrop), AI applications in agriculture (Temporal Fusion Transformers for forecasting, Deep Reinforcement Learning for optimization), Socio-economic analysis (e.g., water pricing, behavioral simulation, policy impact modeling), Real-world testing and validation in Türkiye’s Konya Closed Basin and Mediterranean wetland zones. We are particularly interested in forming a balanced, impact-driven consortium with partners contributing domain expertise, digital technologies, policy innovation, and/or regional case study access.
