The USTO-MB is established on 02 sites, IGCMO and the main campus of Bir El Djir which covers an area of over 100 hectares. The USTO-MB shares many of the characteristics of universities around the world. It is one of the largest training and technological research institutions in Algeria. The administration and the faculties support the smooth running of the University and contribute to its development and success both nationally and internationally. The USTO-MB offers a training system of the type Bachelor, Master and Doctorate (BMD) in accordance with the Bologna process which was adopted by our institution in 2004. The University is composed of seven faculties, namely: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, Natural and Life Sciences (Biology and Biotechnology), Architecture and Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Applied Science and Technology (ISTA) and Institute of Physical and Sports Education There are currently about 26,000 students enrolled, 900 administrative staff supporting the central academic body and 1000 professors (performing academic and research tasks). USTO-MB offers 24 specialties in different fields of technology for graduate studies and 44 for post-graduate. It offers a panel of 62 courses in Bachelor’s degree and 78 in Master’s degree in all fields of technology. 41 accredited laboratories are used for research.
We are seeking to build a multidisciplinary consortium involving academic institutions, research centers, public authorities, and private stakeholders across Mediterranean countries. The project particularly aims to collaborate with partners specialized in:
(1) urban water management and hydraulic engineering,
(2) ecosystem-based approaches and nature-based solutions,
(3) climate modelling and environmental assessment,
(4) GIS-based spatial analysis and decision-support systems, and
(5) Socio-economic and governance aspects of water allocation.
Special interest is given to partners experienced in Mediterranean water stress contexts, including coastal and semi-arid cities. Municipalities, water agencies, and infrastructure operators are strongly encouraged to participate in order to support the Living Lab implementation and co-design processes.
The consortium will adopt a transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach, ensuring strong integration between scientific research, policy development, and practical implementation. The project aims to establish pilot cases in Oran (Algeria) and comparative Mediterranean cities to test and validate innovative water resilience strategies under climate stress.
The project builds upon ongoing research on urban densification and water stress in Mediterranean contexts, ensuring a strong scientific and empirical foundation. We are particularly interested in collaborating with partners experienced in climate adaptation, water governance, and applied technological solutions.
The coordinator is committed to ensuring efficient project management, high-quality scientific outputs, and strong impact in both academic and policy-making spheres. The consortium is expected to contribute to long-term cooperation and knowledge transfer within the PRIMA community.
