The Lebanese Center for Water and Environment (LCWE) is a non-profit organization established in Lebanon. LCWE comprises more than 42 qualified experts with advanced educational backgrounds, including Master’s and Doctoral degrees. The collective expertise, background, and knowledge of LCWE members represent over 40 years of research and applied work across multidisciplinary fields, with a particular emphasis on water, environment, and agriculture, as well as related themes such as climate change, soil, geology, ecosystem and biodiversity, watershed management, natural hazards, and food safety.
LCWE has been involved in several research projects with local and regional consortia and is currently leading a large-scale project funded by IHE, in which it coordinates 11 partners. The main goal of LCWE is to support stakeholders at different levels through training, workshops, and consultations, including grassroots experts, farmers, and marginalized groups in vulnerable communities; this support also extends to decision-makers. In addition, LCWE works on building bridges with national and regional entities and experts.

Based on the expertise of its members in monitoring and managing water resources and related ecosystems, LCWE can serve as an effective partner under Thematic Area 1. This is demonstrated by LCWE’s capacity to apply advanced monitoring approaches, including field measurements using a wide range of devices and portable equipment, as well as its extensive experience in utilizing satellite-based systems to derive hydroclimatic datasets and drought indices.
In addition, LCWE is highly skilled in the use of GIS applications for data processing and analysis. Moreover, LCWE has substantial experience in delivering training and workshops to vulnerable communities and farmers, promoting best practices in water use.
The center is also experienced in implementing nature-based solutions, such as phytoremediation, constructed wetlands, ecosystem restoration, and erosion control measures. Owing to its recognized role, LCWE has been designated by the UNESCO Ecohydrology Programme as responsible for a UNESCO Ecohydrology Demonstration Site in Lebanon.
