Situated in the heart of the Maâmora forest, Ibn Tofaïl University (UIT) stands as a unique institutional model in Morocco, characterized by its integrated and multidisciplinary public campus. Spanning a domain of 80 hectares, the university encompasses eleven constituent institutions offering a comprehensive range of disciplines, including the Humanities and Arts, Law, Economics, Management, and Sciences, as well as specialized schools for Business and Engineering.
Currently hosting more than 85,000 students, UIT is dedicated to fostering curious and reflective minds. Its pedagogical mission is to develop active citizens and responsible professionals who are acutely aware of the environmental, social, and ethical implications of their actions and decisions.
The university distinguishes itself through the depth of its cultural and educational landscape. This is supported by modern infrastructure, notably a University Theatre with a seating capacity of 300, and the “Student Cultural Passport,” which grants access to a global network of cultural institutions across five continents.
Furthermore, Ibn Tofaïl University plays a pivotal role in academic mobility. Through strategic partnerships with prestigious international universities and diverse study-abroad programs, it actively facilitates global exchange opportunities for its students, doctoral researchers, and faculty members.
Strategic Pillars: Water Management, Abiotic and Biotic Stress, Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), Mediterranean Cropping Systems, Plant Performance and Resilience.
Technical Expertise: Biostimulants, Biofertilizers, Bioformulations, PGPR, AMF, Plant-Microbe Interactions, Drought and Salinity Tolerance, Greenhouse Experimentation, Field-Scale Validation.
Our research focuses on investigating the impact of environmental stresses (biotic and abiotic) on plant physiology. We specifically concentrate on developing water management strategies, addressing salinity issues, and applying innovative biostimulants to optimize crop tolerance.
In the framework of the PRIMA program, our laboratory, “Natural Resources & Sustainable Development,” is seeking to join consortia focused on agriculture in marginal environments, sustainable crop production, and bio-based innovations. Our Research Unit, “Plant AgroPhysiology, AgroBiotechnology & Environment,” offers expertise in the following areas:
Microbiome Engineering & Bio-inputs: Design and development of biofertilizers and biostimulants (PGPR, AMF).
Plant-Microbe Interactions: Optimization of microbiomes to enhance plant health and vigor.
Allelopathy Research: Development of bio-based pesticides (biopesticides).
Field Experimentation: Management of greenhouse and field-based applications.
Resilience Validation: Evaluation and selection of resilient crops under Mediterranean environmental conditions.
We aim to integrate into consortia for the joint development of biological solutions, the implementation of multi-site trials, and the integration of cross-disciplinary research (from lab to field) to promote sustainable, field-ready solutions for Mediterranean agroecosystems.
