The Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences of the Marche Polytechnic University (UNIVPM)
is a public research body based in Ancona, Italy, with strong expertise in agricultural sciences, applied ecology, and sustainable crop protection. The university has a well-established track record in entomology, integrated pest management (IPM), and the analysis of agroecosystem dynamics in Mediterranean environments.
Giorrgio Sperandio works on the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for crop protection, including the study of pest population dynamics, species interactions, and spatial distribution patterns with extensive experience in designing field experiments, collecting high-resolution ecological data, and translating scientific knowledge into operational tools for agriculture.
In particular, I have expertise in the creation of predictive models for key agricultural pests, integrating biological, environmental, and agronomic variables. These models are designed to support decision-making processes and can be integrated into Digital Decision Support Systems (DSS) for both farmers and policy-makers.
The university also has strong capabilities in conducting field-based pilot studies, enabling the validation of monitoring tools and modelling approaches under real farming conditions. This includes collaboration with farmers, advisory services, and local stakeholders to ensure applicability and adoption of developed solutions.
I am looking for collaborations for the development of a multidisciplinary consortium aimed at developing and implementing innovative, cost-effective, and user-friendly ICT tools for remote pest monitoring and management in Mediterranean agroecosystems.
I can contribute with its expertise in pest ecology and the development of predictive models that integrate field monitoring data (e.g., traps, scouting), environmental variables, and crop phenology.
I am open for collaborating with partners involved in sensor technologies (e.g., smart traps), data platforms, AI-based diagnostics, and Earth Observation.
