TAGEM (General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies) is Turkey’s primary public agricultural research authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The AI and Digital Agriculture Technologies Research Centre develops AI, machine learning, computer vision, remote sensing, precision agriculture, IoT smart farming, and big data analytics solutions. TAGEM seeks consortium partners for Topic 1.2.1-2026 on Next Generation of Sustainable and Alternative Animal Feeds. Turkey has a significant livestock sector facing challenges in feed sustainability, with heavy dependence on imported feed ingredients and rising costs due to climate variability. TAGEM contributes through its network of 49 research institutes, specifically its Livestock and Animal Nutrition Research Institutes: Animal nutrition research and feed formulation using local Mediterranean by-products and resources; Investigation of insect-based protein, microalgae, and single-cell protein as alternative feed sources; Agro-industrial by-product valorisation (olive pomace, grape marc, citrus pulp) for circular feed production; AI-based precision feeding algorithms and feed efficiency optimization developed by our AI and Digital Agriculture Research Centre; On-farm demonstration and pilot trials across diverse Mediterranean farming systems in Turkey; Life cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis of alternative feed pathways; Nutritional quality, digestibility, and animal performance evaluation. We seek partners with expertise in novel feed ingredient processing technologies, feed safety and regulatory assessment, industrial-scale insect or microalgae production, and Mediterranean livestock system optimization.
