Our expertise aligns closely with PRIMA’s core thematic areas Water Management, Farming Systems, and Agri-food Value Chains, which aims to enhance sustainability, resilience, and efficiency of Mediterranean systems.

NEOCANTAL EU – Development of natural oleocanthal-based dietary supplements from olives
NEOLIVAR EU – AI-based digital tools for olive grove management
GEN4OLIVE EU – Acceleration of olive breeding programmes and genetic resource use, which ended successfully in 2025

INVESTIGO – Research on polyphenol content in olive genotypes
Beyond our technical expertise, we have solid experience in proposal writing and project management within international R&D programmes with high successful rates.
We have also led dissemination, communication, stakeholder engagement, and exploitation activities, working with both public and private stakeholders across Europe and the Mediterranean.

🔹 Water Management
We work with soil and crop monitoring and fertigation optimization to improve water efficiency and support more sustainable resource management. This experience allows SCI to contribute to topics related to sustainable water management, adaptation to water scarcity, and the use of water footprint approaches for better decision-making.
🔹 Farming Systems
SCI has relevant experience in R&D projects focused on climate-smart and resilient agriculture, especially in semi-arid Mediterranean conditions. We combine agronomic expertise with digital tools, including machine learning and mobile-based image recognition for plant disease detection and crop monitoring. In addition, our 40,000 m² experimental trial plot in Seville allows us to validate technologies and practices under real conditions.
🔹 Agri-food Value Chain
SCI works closely with SMEs in the olive sector, supporting innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness across the agri-food value chain. We also have experience in the valorisation of agro-industrial by-products, especially from olive production, exploring applications such as bioenergy, nutraceuticals, and soil amendments. Our work is complemented by LCA, carbon footprint, and water footprint studies.
