DESCRIPTION

AIR Institute is seeking to join an existing consortium as a technology partner, contributing advanced AI, digital infrastructure, and system integration capabilities across the following topics: Topic 1.1.1-2026 – Decentralised Brackish Water Desalination for Climate-Resilient and Resource-Efficient Mediterranean Agriculture AIR Institute can contribute through the development of IoT- and AI-based monitoring and optimisation systems for decentralised desalination units, enabling real-time control of energy consumption, water quality, and operational efficiency. It can support digital twins for system performance optimisation, predictive maintenance, and integration with renewable energy sources, as well as data-driven tools for lifecycle assessment, KPI monitoring (e.g., energy use, cost, brine management), and decision support for farmers and operators. Topic 1.2.1-2026 – Next Generation of Sustainable and Alternative Animal Feeds for Circular and Resilient Mediterranean Farming Systems AIR Institute can support the optimisation of circular feed systems through AI-driven modelling of resource flows and valorisation pathways for agri-food residues and biomass. It can develop digital tools for monitoring feed performance, traceability, and supply-chain integration, as well as platforms for analysing environmental and economic performance (e.g., LCA-based indicators, cost–benefit analysis). It can also contribute to Living Lab environments and multi-actor collaboration platforms to support co-design and validation in real farming contexts. Topic 1.3.1-2026 – Sustainable On-Site Transformation of Perishable Mediterranean Agri-food Products AIR Institute can develop smart digital solutions for on-site or near-site processing systems, including AI-enabled quality control, process optimisation, and resource efficiency (e.g., energy and water use). It can support the integration of IoT and edge technologies into modular processing units, as well as digital traceability systems to enhance value-chain transparency. Additionally, it can contribute to decision-support tools for operational optimisation, cost-effectiveness, and scalability, aligned with real deployment conditions. Topic 1.4.1-2026 – Institutionalising and Scaling the Mediterranean WEFE Nexus Community of Practice for Cross-Sectoral Governance and Policy Uptake AIR Institute can contribute to the design and development of digital knowledge platforms and interaction hubs supporting the Community of Practice, enabling data sharing, collaborative workspaces, and structured knowledge exchange. It can support the development of decision-support tools, replication frameworks, and digital toolkits, as well as data-driven policy insights. The institute also brings experience in enabling stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and multi-actor collaboration through digital environments. Across all topics, AIR Institute contributes expertise in: • AI-driven optimisation and predictive analytics • IoT and edge-based monitoring systems • Digital twins and simulation environments • Data interoperability and secure data-sharing frameworks • Traceability and value-chain integration • Development of scalable digital platforms for multi-actor collaboration AIR Institute is experienced in supporting demonstration and validation in near-operational environments (TRL 6–8), contributing to impact pathways, scalability, and real-world adoption.

REMARKS

As AIR Institute is not currently coordinating a proposal for this topic, it would be glad to join an existing consortium and is open to taking on a coordination or leadership role during project implementation, if appropriate. This interest is backed by AIR Institute’s experience in European R&D projects such as NOUS, where it acts as project coordinator. Through this experience, AIR Institute has developed strong capacity to support multi-actor collaboration, Living Labs, and scalable innovation pathways within European projects.
