The Institute for Applied Informatics as a research institution of Deggendorf Institute of Technology has a particular focus on embedded systems, communication systems and geoinformatics. In cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as internationally active corporations and research organizations, a staff of around 45 scientifc and technical employees works on applied research and development projects. Among other things, research and development focuses on the areas of communication systems (especially 5G and LoRa), UAV-based sensor and communication platforms as well as embedded systems, sensor networking and machine learning (AI and edge AI).

We are seeking to join a consortium that will address Topic 2.2.1 (Novel remote and non-invasive ICT monitoring and control systems against disease and pest infestation) or Topic 2.3.1 (Empowering Mediterranean Food Value Chains through Context-Aware Digital Traceability).
We can contribute our expertise and research experience in the following areas:
– Development and integration of low-cost sensor systems
– Low-cost sensor networks for IoT with e.g. LoRaWAN to collect the data
– Connection to mobile networks like 5G as backend
– UAV-based monitoring with tailored sensor systems (e.g. thermal infrared, hyperspectral, multispectral)
– Sensor data and image processing e.g. with machine learning, and edge AI
– Development of web-based platforms and Apps
– AI based decision making
Furthermore, we can contribute to the scientific dissemination of project results.
