The Apicultural Research Center is a research institution operating under the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, conducting research in the field of apiculture at both national and international levels. The center carries out studies on honey bee breeding and genetic improvement, conservation of local honey bee races and ecotypes, colony performance and productivity, bee health and diseases, bumblebee rearing, pollination ecology, and the quality and composition of bee products such as honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom, apilarnil, and beeswax.
The center also conducts research aimed at developing innovative technologies in beekeeping. In this context, studies are carried out on digital hive monitoring systems, precision apiculture applications, the impacts of climate change on pollinators, and sustainable beekeeping practices. In addition to its research activities, the center contributes to knowledge and technology transfer through training and extension programs and develops collaborations with national and international research institutions, universities, and industry stakeholders.

The Apicultural Research Center of the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute aims to participate in an international consortium within the framework of the PRIMA 2026 call. Our center conducts research on honey bee breeding and genetic improvement, bee health and diseases, bumblebee rearing, pollination ecology, and the quality and composition of bee products. In addition, the center seeks to develop studies on the use of digital technologies in beekeeping, including precision apiculture applications, sensor-based hive monitoring systems, and artificial intelligence–supported data analysis.
In this context, collaboration is particularly sought with research groups working in the fields of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), sensor technologies, data analytics, smart agriculture systems, and pollinator ecology. The proposed cooperation will focus on the analysis of in-hive sensor data, early detection of colony health issues and stress factors, monitoring of pollination services, and the development of innovative technologies for sustainable beekeeping practices.
Our center can make significant contributions to such projects through its experimental apiaries, laboratory infrastructure, and field research capacity. In addition, studies are planned on the valorization of waste generated in the beekeeping sector and the development of value-added products from these materials. In this context, the project may also contribute to the development of innovative approaches for converting beekeeping-related waste materials into animal feed products.
