renewable food processing, modular micro-factories, circular bioeconomy, green extraction, bioactive ingredients, rural innovation, Mediterranean partnerships
We are currently developing two distinct flagship project concepts for PRIMA 2026 – Topic 1.3.1 (IA): Sustainable on-site transformation of perishable Mediterranean agri-products, and we are looking for strong Mediterranean partners.
Project Concept 1 – MED-MODVALUE
Renewable-powered modular rural processing infrastructure for Mediterranean perishables
MED-MODVALUE focuses on the deployment of compact, field-ready modular processing units that can be installed at farm, cooperative, or community level to rapidly transform fresh Mediterranean crops such as tomato, pepper, grape, fig, olive, citrus, and aromatic plants into shelf-stable foods, concentrates, fermented products, preserved ingredients, and premium regional foods.
The project is strongly positioned around:
renewable-powered and hybrid off-grid food processing
solar-assisted drying and preservation
energy-efficient rural processing systems
post-harvest loss reduction
mobile and remote-area deployment
women and youth territorial entrepreneurship
cooperative and community processing business models
At this stage, the highest-priority gap for MED-MODVALUE is the renewable energy and smart off-grid processing dimension, and we are especially looking for partners with expertise in:
solar food processing systems
hybrid off-grid solutions
battery storage and rural microgrids
smart energy management and IoT metering
biomass-supported heat recovery
energy optimisation for modular processing units
Project Concept 2 – BIOVAL-MED
Decentralised ingredient biotech and circular micro-biorefinery ecosystems
BIOVAL-MED takes a completely different innovation route by focusing on the valorisation of Mediterranean agro-industrial side streams and by-products such as citrus peels, grape pomace, tomato skins, olive leaves, fig residues, and aromatic biomass into premium bioactive ingredients, natural extracts, fibre concentrates, clean-label stabilisers, antioxidant powders, and natural preservative systems.
The project is built around:
green extraction and ingredient biotech
micro-biorefinery cartridges
functional ingredient standardisation
circular bioeconomy business models
IP and patentable ingredient systems
food ingredient supply for SMEs
territorial women/youth-led ingredient hubs
For BIOVAL-MED, we are particularly interested in:
food ingredient SMEs
green extraction technology providers
biotech and fermentation partners
natural preservative and clean-label formulation companies
food manufacturers and ingredient buyers
IP and commercialisation partners
Across both concepts, we also welcome collaboration with:
cooperatives and producer organisations
regional development agencies and public bodies
women and youth entrepreneurship organisations
business development and investment ecosystem partners
South Mediterranean implementation partners
universities and research centres active in food science, process engineering, sustainability, circular bioeconomy, and techno-economic assessment
If your organisation is active in renewable-powered rural food processing, ingredient biotech, circular Mediterranean bioeconomy, or territorial innovation ecosystems, we would be very happy to explore collaboration opportunities.
