ENIG Tunisia Seeking to Join PRIMA 2026 Consortium (Water Management & Ecosystems)
The National Engineering School of Gabes (ENIG) is a leading public higher education and research institution located in Gabès, Tunisia. Established in 1975, ENIG is part of the national network of engineering schools and plays a key role in training high-level engineers and supporting scientific and technological development in Tunisia and the Mediterranean region. ENIG offers multidisciplinary engineering education and research across several key fields, including chemical process engineering, civil engineering, electrical and automation engineering, mechanical engineering, and communication and network engineering. These domains are supported by specialised laboratories and research units in the fields of process engineering, industrial systems, energy, and environmental technologies. With a strong focus on applied research and innovation, ENIG actively contributes to addressing regional challenges such as water scarcity, energy transition, environmental protection, and sustainable industrial development. The institution maintains close collaboration with industry stakeholders and public authorities, providing expertise, technology transfer, and continuous professional training. ENIG has a solid academic and research capacity, with a community of experienced faculty members, researchers, and engineers, and an institutional environment that fosters international cooperation. The school has participated in various international programs and collaborations, reinforcing its role as a strategic partner in Euro-Mediterranean research initiatives. Located in southern Tunisia, a region facing acute environmental and water management challenges, ENIG offers direct access to relevant field conditions and pilot sites. This geographical positioning strengthens its contribution to projects focused on climate resilience, water resources management, and sustainable agriculture in arid and semi-arid Mediterranean contexts.

DESCRIPTION

Our research unit in Modelling in Civil and Environmental Engineering (RUMCEE) is seeking to join an existing consortium for the PRIMA 2026 calls, particularly under Topic 1.1.1 (Decentralised Brackish Water Desalination) and Topic 2.1.1 (Non-perennial watercourses). ENIG aims to contribute as an active partner by providing technical expertise, field-based research capacity, and access to relevant Mediterranean case studies. RUMCEE proposes to support consortium activities through its multidisciplinary expertise in process engineering, water treatment technologies, environmental engineering, and sustainable resource management. The research unit can contribute to the development, testing, and validation of innovative solutions, particularly in water-scarce and arid environments representative of Southern Mediterranean conditions. In the context of Topic 1.1.1, RUMCEE can contribute to the design, optimisation, and field validation of decentralised brackish water desalination systems, including performance assessment, energy efficiency analysis, and brine management strategies. The RU can also provide access to pilot sites and local stakeholders, facilitating real-world testing and demonstration in agricultural settings. For Topic 2.1.1, RUMCEE offers expertise in hydrological analysis, environmental monitoring, and ecosystem assessment, with the capacity to support data collection, modeling, and evaluation of nature-based solutions for non-perennial watercourses. Its regional positioning allows for meaningful contributions to case studies involving intermittent rivers and drought-prone ecosystems. RUMCEE is particularly interested in collaborating with academic institutions, research centers, industry partners, and public authorities to strengthen the scientific, technical, and regional relevance of the proposal. The RU is also well-positioned to contribute to stakeholder engagement, dissemination activities, and the transfer of project results to local and regional end-users. Through this collaboration, RUMCEE aims to support the development of innovative, scalable, and climate-resilient solutions addressing water challenges in the Mediterranean, while reinforcing Euro-Mediterranean research cooperation.

REMARKS

RUMCEE is fully committed to actively contributing to a competitive and impactful PRIMA 2026 proposal. The research unit is available to engage at short notice in proposal preparation, including the definition of work packages, identification of case studies, and contribution to technical and impact sections. Thanks to its location in Southern Tunisia, our institution offers direct access to arid and semi-arid environments that are highly relevant for testing and validating solutions under real Mediterranean conditions. The institution is also open to aligning its contribution with the specific needs of the consortium and adapting its role to maximize overall project impact. RUMCEE is particularly interested in long-term collaboration beyond the proposal phase, fostering sustainable partnerships within the Euro-Mediterranean research and innovation community.
