CEREAL-SHIELD MED aims to develop and validate a low-cost digital surveillance and decision-support system for the monitoring of key pests and beneficial arthropods in Mediterranean cereal systems. The project will focus on major open-field pest problems, while integrating the regulatory role of natural enemies.
The project will combine standardized field monitoring, mobile-based data collection, geo-referenced observations, and eco-climatic analysis to build a practical early warning framework adapted to Mediterranean cereal production, especially in regions where farmers and extension services need simple, affordable, and field-ready digital tools.
As a researcher in plant protection and applied entomology, I can contribute to the proposal through:
• identifying major cereal pests;
• assessing the diversity and ecological role of natural enemies in cereal agroecosystems;
• designing standardized and field-adapted sampling protocols;
• analyzing seasonal dynamics and interactions between pests and beneficial arthropods
