Fermeta UG is a German agri-biotech startup developing postbiotic feed additives for dairy cattle that simultaneously reduce enteric methane emissions by up to 50% and improve animal energy efficiency. Our technology is based on fermentation-derived bioactive compounds that modulate rumen microbiota without the regulatory and consumer acceptance challenges of direct feed additives. We have completed in-vitro validation and are advancing toward farm-scale trials in partnership with established research institutions, including the Chamber of Agriculture in Germany and a University in Italy.

We are forming a consortium to apply to Topic 1.2.1-2026 (IA): Next Generation of Sustainable and Alternative Animal Feeds for Circular and Resilient Mediterranean Farming Systems. Our consortium currently includes Fermeta UG (Germany, SME) and the University of Udine (Italy). To meet eligibility requirements, we are seeking at least two partners established in Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPCs) — ideally research organisations, universities, or livestock sector actors in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Türkiye, Jordan, or Lebanon.
Ideal partners would contribute one or more of the following: livestock demonstration sites or living labs for near-operational feed trials (TRL 6–7); expertise in Mediterranean ruminant production systems; capacity for life cycle assessment or socioeconomic analysis; or connections to local dairy cooperatives and feed value chain actors. Fermeta will lead the technology and commercialisation workstream; the University in Italy brings animal nutrition and feed science expertise.
Deadline for Stage 1 submission is 15 May 2026. We are moving quickly and would prioritise prompt responses. Please contact Niklas Koch, CEO, Fermeta UG.
