The University of Messina (Italy) has extensive experience in national and international research programs (PRIMA 2022, 2023, 2025; PNRR; MAECI), with a strong focus on sustainable agricultural systems in Mediterranean environments. The Plant Production Unit of the Department of Veterinary Sciences is internationally recognized for its expertise in open-field and greenhouse horticulture production, with experience in sustainable and resilient production strategies tailored to Mediterranean conditions. Our research activities focus on sustainable agronomic practices, optimisation of resource use (water, nutrients), and development of climate-resilient production systems. Within the scope of the PRIMA Topic 1.3.1-2026, we aim to extend our expertise along the agri-food value chain, contributing to the integration of sustainable production systems, the development of innovative, low-impact solutions for preserving and valorising fresh produce at farm level.

Looking for a consortium to contribute to the Topic 1.3.1-2026 (IA) “Sustainable On-Site Transformation of Perishable Mediterranean Agri-food Products”, providing expertise in field or greenhouse experimental trials with improved, environmentally sound practices and product quality. Our vision mainly focuses on resource use efficiency, horticulture crop production, low-input agronomic practices to reduce environmental pollution/impact.
