ULTRA-FOG MED – Smart Fog Irrigation & Brackish Water Valorisation for Mediterranean Greenhouses
The RCAM laboratory created in 2007 is a multidisciplinary research entity whose activities revolve around subjects as varied as image processing, networks, embedded electronic and computer systems, IoT and AI.

TOPICS

Topic 1.1.1-2026 (IA) Decentralised Brackish Water Desalination for Climate-Resilient and Resource-Efficient Mediterranean Agriculture

Topic 2.2.1-2026 (RIA) Novel remote and non-invasive ICT monitoring and control systems against disease and pest infestation

KEYWORDS

brackish water, greenhouse irrigation, fog irrigation, ultrasonic atomisation, IoT agriculture, AI predictive control, water-use efficiency, saline water valorisation, precision farming, micro-fluidics, crop stress monitoring, Mediterranean horticulture, smart sensors, embedded systems, smallholder farms, aerosol physics, irrigation physiology, protected cultivation, water scarcity, desalination pre-treatment, non-invasive monitoring, ICT agriculture

DESCRIPTION

We are forming a consortium for PRIMA 2026 to develop an IoT and AI-driven micro-irrigation system adapted to Mediterranean greenhouse agriculture. This project aims to optimize water use efficiency and enable the sustainable use of brackish or low-quality water through intelligent distribution and predictive control. We are seeking partners with expertise in the following areas: – Ultrasonic atomization / microfluidics / aerosol physics – Greenhouse agronomy / crop physiology under water stress – IoT sensors and embedded systems for precision agriculture – Decentralized water treatment / brackish water management
