The National Institute of Agricultural Research of Algeria (INRAA) is placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries. Its legal status is that of a Public Scientific and Technological Establishment (EPST). Its missions are: to contribute to the development and execution of the multi-annual research program; to promote scientific and technical information by disseminating research results nationally and internationally; to ensure the valorization and economic protection of intellectual property rights of research results obtained by the institute’s researchers; to develop partnerships between the institute and national economic operators in the agricultural and agri-food sector; and to develop innovative business projects based on research results.
As a permanent researcher in the Animal Production Research Division of INRAA, I am actively seeking to join a consortium as partner for the PRIMA 2026 Topic 1.2.1 (IA) “Next Generation of Sustainable and Alternative Animal Feeds for Circular and Resilient Mediterranean Farming Systems”.
My expertise directly matches the topic. I currently serve as Project Leader of the National Development Project (2026-2028) entitled “Valorisation of crop residues and locally available agro-industrial by-products for sheep meat production in Algeria: case of the El-Oued region”. This project focuses precisely on the use of local agricultural wastes and agro-industrial by-products as alternative feeds for sheep, promoting circular economy principles, reducing dependence on imported raw materials, and enhancing resilience in arid and semi-arid Mediterranean conditions.
With a PhD in Animal Productions (ENSA, 2019) and more than 15 years of applied research, I have developed strong experience in: • Incorporation of local forages (alfalfa hay, wheat straw) in ruminant and rabbit diets; • Genetic improvement through alternating crossbreeding of local sheep breeds (Ouled Djellal × D’man) for better productivity and adaptation; • Sustainable livestock management systems, GHG emissions from livestock, and valorisation of local genetic resources.
I can bring to the consortium: • Field data and experimental results from Algerian semi-arid environments; • Design and implementation of on-station and on-farm trials on novel feed formulations; • Assessment of zootechnical performance, carcass quality, and environmental impact (including GHG reduction); • Strong links with local stakeholders (farmers, cooperatives, agro-industries) for technology transfer and upscaling; • Contribution to dissemination, capacity building and Mediterranean knowledge exchange.
This partnership would enrich the project with a North-African perspective and concrete solutions for circular and resilient Mediterranean farming systems.

As Project Leader of a current National Development Project on the valorisation of local crop residues and agro-industrial by-products for sheep feeding in arid regions (El-Oued), I can contribute with field trials, experimental data on alternative feeds, zootechnical evaluations, and strong experience in sustainable ruminant production systems adapted to Mediterranean semi-arid conditions.
