The National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) is Jordan’s leading agricultural research institution, dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture, crop improvement, and innovative technologies.
NARC conducts research on high-value crops, post-harvest management, and sustainable farming practices, supporting farmers and local communities across Jordan. The center has expertise in crop breeding, organic farming, value addition, and utilization of agricultural by-products, contributing to food security, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
In the context of this project, NARC will provide scientific support, technical guidance, and research-based solutions for the post-harvest handling, processing, and valorization of organic hybrid cactus pear, complementing the project’s international collaboration.

The proposed collaboration aims to bring together expertise in sustainable agro-food innovation and value chain enhancement for organic hybrid cactus pear.
The National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) in Jordan will coordinate local implementation, providing research support on post-harvest handling, quality assessment, and valorisation of by-products.
International partners will contribute complementary expertise:
Universities or research institutions will conduct advanced studies on shelf-life, processing, and circular economy applications.
Industry partners will advise on packaging, grading, and marketing for export.
This collaboration will ensure knowledge transfer, improve product quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and strengthen smallholder farmer participation, while aligning with PRIMA’s objectives of innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness in the Mediterranean agro-food sector.
The National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) will act as the local research and technical partner in Jordan, supporting post-harvest handling, quality assessment, and valorisation of by-products.
The official submission to PRIMA will be made by the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), as the recognized national representative.
All international partners have been selected based on their expertise in agro-food innovation, Mediterranean crop systems, and post-harvest technologies.
The collaboration will ensure knowledge transfer, sustainable practices, and integration of smallholder farmers into the value chain, contributing to economic development and environmental sustainability.
