The Department of Environmental Science and Policy (ESP) at the University of Milan is a multidisciplinary research department dedicated to addressing complex environmental challenges related to resource use, climate change and sustainable development.
ESP has specific competences in sustainability assessment of agri-food systems, environmental impact analysis, circular economy and bioeconomy, as well as the development of interdisciplinary methodologies combining scientific, economic and policy perspectives. Its research supports evidence-based decision making and the design of strategies for sustainable resource management and resilient socio-ecological systems.
The Department is therefore well positioned to contribute to PRIMA projects through integrated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), sustainability evaluation frameworks, and the co-design of solutions addressing Mediterranean environmental and agri-food challenges.

The University of Milan (UNIMI) is a leading public research institution with strong expertise in sustainability assessment of agri-food systems and environmental processes. UNIMI offers advanced competences in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), environmental footprinting, and integrated sustainability analysis, circularity evaluation, social sustainability assessment and multicriteria decision analysis supporting the evaluation of environmental, economic and social impacts of innovative solutions.
The team has extensive experience in EU-funded and international projects, contributing to the development of methodologies, decision-support tools, and policy-relevant indicators aligned with Mediterranean challenges. UNIMI is particularly interested in collaborating within PRIMA projects addressing sustainable agri-food value chains, water–energy–food nexus, circular economy approaches, and climate-resilient systems.
The group can support consortium activities including: (i) LCA and environmental impact assessment, (ii) sustainability benchmarking and scenario analysis, (iii) development of indicators and monitoring frameworks, and (iv) dissemination of results to stakeholders and policy-makers.
UNIMI is open to joining consortia as a technical partner contributing to impact assessment, sustainability integration, and exploitation strategies.
