The Oeko-Institut (Institute for Applied Ecology, Germany) is seeking to join a consortium responding to PRIMA Call Topic 1.2.1-2026 on sustainable and alternative animal feeds for Mediterranean farming systems. We offer strong expertise in environmental sustainability assessment, with a particular focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of agricultural products, food value chains, and individual farm systems — including method development. Our work covers key impact categories such as carbon footprint, water use, land use, and biodiversity, enabling robust comparison of alternative and conventional feed systems. Beyond LCA, we bring experience in circularity assessment, and sustainability strategies for agri-food systems, including the analysis of regional value chains and socio-ecological transformation pathways. Relevant recent projects include LCA-based assessments of organic food systems using the EU Product Environmental Footprint methodology, an analysis of hidden environmental costs of milk production systems, and research on biodiversity-promoting dairy production systems. We are looking for a lead partner and consortium with demonstrated expertise in feed innovation, livestock/aquaculture systems, and Mediterranean regional contexts. We are prepared to take responsibility for Work Package leadership in environmental and sustainability assessment.
