Development of antifungal and antibacterial food packaging materials and edible coatings for preservation of fruit and vegetables, valorization of food/agricultural wastes for production of packaging materials and edible films, determination of the best coating-food match for the longest shelf-life, manipulation of mechanical and barrier properties of packaging materials by physical or chemical techniques, designation of edible coatings with probiotics or competitive lactic acid bacteria, reinforcement of food packaging materials with nanofillers, development of novel active films with the addition of antimicrobial nanoparticles.
