The Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry (LAQV) is the Portuguese Research Centre for Sustainable Chemistry, and part of the Network of Chemistry and Technology (REQUIMTE), created in 1996 by researchers from the Universities of Porto and NOVA of Lisbon, and chartered as a private non-profit scientific organization. In the present configuration, LAQV spreads out from the two initial universities to include the University of Aveiro, Coimbra, Évora, Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, and small sites all over the country.
The distribution over the Portuguese territory empowers an improved scientific and technologic capacity and an internal synergy of resources and interactions with stakeholders. The vision of LAQV is for a world in which Sustainable Chemistry is used as a powerful and dynamic tool to tackle the societal, economic, and environmental challenges of modern life. Accordingly, our mission is to initiate, advance, and promote the principles of Sustainable Chemistry through a multiplicity of research, networking, training, and outreach activities.
The complementary proficiencies across the Thematic Lines are provided by scientists from various research labs with similar backgrounds and activities, which are organized in ten research groups: (i) Analytical development; (ii) (Bio)Chemical process engineering; (iii) (Bio)Chemistry & omics; (iv) Cultural heritage and responsive materials; (v) Environmental chemistry; (vi) Food quality and technology; (vii) Materials for sustainability and wellbeing; (viii) Molecular synthesis; (ix) Nanoplatforms; and (x) Natural products: chemistry and bioactivity. - Topic 1.3.1-2023 (RIA) Increasing agri-food supply chain (cereal) resilience in the MENA region. | Topic 2.3.1-2023 (RIA) Assessing novel antimicrobial food packaging and coating materials to reduce food waste to improve safety in the Mediterranean food supply chain.

Free to join/set a consortium to apply with a proposal in the framework of Topic 1.3.1-2023 (RIA) Increasing agri-food supply chain (cereal) resilience in the MENA region.
We are particularly interested on joining/setting a consortium on crop diversification and/or development of novel food products.
The organizational structure of LAQV enables access to seven technical resources, coordinated by qualified staff that support the use of the facilities of the (i) Biological and chemical analysis Facilities; (ii) Computer Cluster; (iii) Magnetic Resonance; (iv) Mass spectrometry; (v) Electron Microscopy; (vi) X-ray diffraction; and the (vii) Pilot plant installation.
