Tamkeen for Sustainable Tourism Development (TASUD) is a none for profit company that has been established in 2020, in Jordan, in response to the grave and adverse impact by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on global and Jordan’s tourism and the Jordanian hospitality sector at large.
Many jobs are being lost and numerous small businesses are sustaining losses or at risk of closure due to travel restrictions and safety measures by governments – all of which are threatening increased unemployment, poverty, disparity, culture, and heritage, aggravated – and often irreversible destroying of nature and preservation efforts.
TASUD believes that tourism is a force for a better life; when managed responsibly it can transform people’s livelihoods and build resilient communities while preserving and safeguarding the environment. TASUD – while locally oriented, operates within the United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs: 2030) and commits to the principles of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Global Code of Ethics to guide its agenda.
