The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Sicilia is a governmental health agency and it operates as the technical-scientific tool of the public veterinary services. It is part of a network of ten institutes located all over the country and coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Health. The activities carried out by the institute comprise both traditional and innovative diagnostic procedures in the field of animal health, food safety and animal welfare. The institute is involved and promotes research activities with regards to food safety, animal health and animal welfare, control and prevention of zoonoses, one health issues and it also provide training and continuing education for health personnel.
The collaboration may consist of:
- UNI CEI EN ISO / IEC 17025 accredited laboratory microbiology analyzes on food and biological matrices including pathogens’ genotyping and sequencing;
- determination of barcoding on food and animal matrices;
- the certification of food and production chain controls;
- training for health personnel and operators in the agro-fish-livestock sector;
- diagnosis and management of foodborne and non-foodborne zoonoses;
