We are a microbiology research laboratory (microlab), integrated in the Centre of Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) at the University of Aveiro, Aveiro, Portugal, looking to integrate a PRIMA consortium.
Our team is largely experienced in handling different environmental sample types, from pristine to contaminated waters, irrigation water, wastewater, but also soils, vegetables, and fish (rainbow trout, zebra-fish). We have skills in culture-dependent and independent methodologies for the analysis of complex microbial communities and strains. Moreover, we have the facilities and knowledge for handling large sequence data and analysis, genome assembly and annotation, whole-genome based analysis for taxonomic inference and resistome and mobilome description. We are experienced in characterization of antibiotic resistant bacteria and resistance mechanisms, dissemination potential, virulence traits, metal tolerance and pathogenicity traits; quantification of genetic determinants of resistance.
