Topic 1.1.1 (RIA) Sustainable soil and water management for combating land degradation and desertification and promoting ecosystem restoration
Topic 1.2.1 (IA) Increasing environmental and socio-economic performance of small-scale farming systems through improvements in organisational aspects and new value chain governance models Topic 2.2.1 (RIA) Up-scaling field practices based on organic agriculture to increase ecosystem services and biodiversity, to adapt the small farming systems to climate change and to increase farmers incomes
Topic 1.3.1 (IA) Increase adherence to the Mediterranean diet as a sustainable pattern including environmental, social and health aspects Topic 2.3.1 (RIA) Increasing the resilience of small-scale farms to global challenges and COVID-like crisis by using adapted technologies, smart agri-food supply chain and crisis management tools
Topic 1.4.1 (IA) Leveraging knowledge on the Nexus management of Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems resources in the Mediterranean region: from concepts to practical solutions
Conserving biodiversity, local cultivars, indigenous breeds, Livestock farming production systems, sustainable management, natural resources management, sustainable agricultural, Farming systems, Local breeds improvment, Pastoralism, Pastoralism and societies inclusion, Sustainable farming systems under Mediterranean environmental constraints, Topic 1.2.1-2021 (IA) Increasing the environmental and socio-economic performance of small scale farming systems through improvements in organisational aspects and new value chain governance models, agroecology and farming systems, genetic improvment of adaptation critera, goat and sheep, sutainable animal production on mediterranean range lands
Since 1990, our team performs researches on resources and sustainable development of pastoral systems in arid Mediterranean areas. Especially, we have been concerned with the breeding modes of pastoral and agro-pastoral sheep and goats, characterization of animal local genetic resources (local goat population), valorization of animal products, transhumance, genetic improvement under harsh environments, herds management,… The achievements made it possible to design some methodologies and sustainable improvement plans for herds in the various farming systems in the region.
Thus, we are looking for collaboration on the themes related to the breeding of small ruminants in Mediterranean areas, the improvement of local genetic resources, the enhancement of know-how for the technological innovation of herds management, the animal products valorization, the water and pastoral resources sustainable management in arid environments,… and the sustainable development of arid areas subject to the risks of desertification.
DESCRIPTION OF YOUR ORGANISATION:
Arid regions institute (Medenine Tunisia) is a public research institute.
The mission of the institute is to conduct research in order to develop methodologies and plans which ensure a sustainable and agroecological development of arid regions subject to desertification threats.
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area will devise new R&I approaches to improve water availability and sustainable agriculture production in a region heavily distressed by climate change, urbanisation and population growth
The PRIMA programme is an Art.185 initiative supported and funded under Horizon 2020, the European Union’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
