DESCRIPTION OF YOUR ORGANISATION:
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), Marmara Research Centre (MAM), Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute (GEBI) was established as one of the non-profit leading research institution worldwide that makes cutting-edge science in genetics and biotechnology to enhance the competitiveness in this field by taking into consideration the needs of general public, local industry, and current tendencies in the field in 1983. GEBI has four RTD Units : 1) Animal Biotechnology ; Animal Genetics and Reproduction Biology Laboratory, Diagnostic Technologies Laboratory, 2) Medical Biotechnology ; Vaccine Technology Laboratory, Bionanotechnology Laboratory, Molecular Cell Biology Laboratory, Immunogenetics Laboratory, 3) Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology ; Enzyme and Fermentation Technology Laboratory, Enzyme and Microorganism Molecular Genetics Laboratory, 4) Plant Biotechnology ; Plant Gene Technologies Laboratory, Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory conducting basic research in biosciences. Each unit has well established research infrastructure and excellent researcher potential including 7 Associate Professors, 25 Doctorates and 14 Masters who have been experienced conducting national and international research projects in multidisciplinary field. GEBI has been confirmed as an excellence centre for "Third World Academy of Science (TWAS)" and has been also affiliated with "International Centre of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB-Trieste). Additionally, GEBI had been also the main collaborator of European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) and European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Turkey until 2005.
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area will devise new R&I approaches to improve water availability and sustainable agriculture production in a region heavily distressed by climate change, urbanisation and population growth
