DESCRIPTION OF YOUR ORGANISATION:
The ULPGC is located on the island of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands). It was set up in May 1989 by the University Reorganization Law passed by the Canary Islands’ Parliament, which united the Canary Islands Polytechnic University (initially, in 1979, the Polytechnic University of Las Palmas), and other university centres on Gran Canaria, some of which dated back to the 19th century. It is, therefore, an institution that brings together a modern approach and many decades of experience.
The ULPGC offers a wide range of degress in all the major fields of knowledge. ULPGC students receive support for on-site classes through the e-training platform and may also take specific harmonization courses for the most difficult subjects in the first year of the degree course.
There are more than 1,500 lecturers at the ULPGC carrying out important research work under the auspices of the University’s research groups, some of which are leaders in their field at an international level. There are also research centres and University Research Institutes.
The ULPGC offers the university community a wide range of cultural and sports activities to complement academic learning, promoting values such as solidarity, social justice, gender equality, and respect for diversity and the environment among members of the community.
The ULPGC is endowed with libraries, reading and study rooms and computer labs, providing students with the support they need to get the most out of the teaching they receive. This support can be found in books, journals and other print material, as well as new technology formats. Some of the reading rooms at the University Library are open 24 hours a day, and the students can also consult sources at the library, take books out on loan, make photocopies, access teledocumentation and request the purchase of material. Laptops are also available.
The ULPGC’s sports service manages a number of different indoor and outdoor facilities for the following sports, among others: handball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, indoor football, athletics, rugby, football, squash, weightlifting, wrestling, sports gymnastics and aerobics. It also offers a programme of outdoor activities such as rambling, orienteering, canoeing, multi-adventure, mountain-bike, diving, parachuting, hang-gliding and bungey-jumpin.
You can find all this in a modern institution, where you can register on-line, and which offers students not only academic training, but also complementary activities.
