This proposal aims to implement photovoltaic water pumping station pilot project (PVWPS) for RIA (Research and Innovation Activity) to attain sustainable water balances optimal management and irrigation performance, in a real large semi-arid farm, in Souk-Ahras, Algeria. It consists of an experimental field which includes three photovoltaic water pumping systems to be erected on two boreholes and valley's dike with flood control gate system, for irrigating about 10 hectares of olive trees, 30 hectares of large scale cereal lands (wheat, barley, fodder) and about 10 hectares of valley’s grassland. Accordingly, novel methods and technical tools leading to reduce the gap between the farm potential and the adopted irrigation system performance can be developed through three main study areas:
Sought partner can contribute in one of the following axes:
1- Assessment of water availability, water balances and the needed amount for irrigation within surface and groundwater sources, considering hydraulic behavior and climatic variation.
2- Efficient use of both water and energy in irrigation through the energetic and economic optimization of photovoltaic pumping plants, modernization of water distribution and irrigation systems by adopting new technologies.
3-Water quality, soil specifics and adaptable crop can be investigated through, especially, degree of aridity and salinity, humidity, temperature, soil fertility and infiltration.
