DESCRIPTION OF YOUR ORGANISATION:
ARC is the main agricultural research institution responsible for applied research, and its mandate is to cover agriculture research at the country level, in collaboration with the existing faculties of agriculture and other research institutions related to agriculture. It is a semi-autonomous research institution governed by a board of directors chaired by the Minister of agriculture.
Objectives Achieve sustainable development through the implementation of modern technology which will achieve the suitable use of agricultural natural resources, fulfill the people needs and requirements and improve the farmer's income. Moreover, raise the efficiency of its institutes and setting a condensed executive managerial developmental program to transform the ARC into a main national tool for competing in the agriculture field
Vision To promote the agricultural and related sectors through research, technology transfer in order to: Ensure high quality and safe food; Enhance the natural resource base and environment; Sustain competitive agricultural economy opportunities
ARC have 16 Research Institute , 13 Central labs, 10 Regional station, 36 specific research stations, 21 research administrations through Egypt and 4 Research, Extension and training Centres of Excellence.
Multidisciplinary is the major feature of routine planes and key to success. Clear definition of research topics.
Through this proposal we aims to:
1- Develop new sorghum varieties to resolve some problems facing industry of sorghum stalks ( wood industry - bio fuel - diet of Mediterranean)
2- Develop new varieties facing climate changes and tolerate biotic and abiotic stresses .
3- Increase productivity of sorghum through over-expression of some genes.
4- Improvement of sorghum features to cope with industrial and market requirements.
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area will devise new R&I approaches to improve water availability and sustainable agriculture production in a region heavily distressed by climate change, urbanisation and population growth
