According to our team's expertise, our contribution could include:
a) Groundwater/Hydrological modeling (SWAT, MODFLOW, MIKE, FEFLOW).
b) Water quantity and quality assessment.
c) Development of water resources management plans/strategies.
d) Establishment of study cases demonstrating overexploitation and seawater intrusion in central and north Greece (for Topic 1.1.1).
e) Establishment of study case in Pinios Hydrologic Observatory related to irrigation and water resources management in orchards (for Topic 2.1.1).
f) Chemical analyses of soil and water in our accredited laboratory.
g) Capacity building activities for local, regional and national authorities and stakeholders.
DESCRIPTION OF YOUR ORGANISATION:
Soil & Water Resources Institute (Land Reclamation Department-LRD) is one of the 11 Research Institutes of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization-DEMETER (HAO-DEMETER). Over the last 7 years LRD has participated in over 15 research projects (national and EC), with a total budget of over 10M€, five of which funded by Life+ programme (SoS, EcoPest, SAGE10, oLIVECLIMA, AgroClimaWater).
Most projects are agriculture oriented and mainly related to agricultural water management and policy, water resources modelling, implementation of state-of-the-art technological solutions and sensors in environmental monitoring, compilation and implementation of good agricultural practices, climate change impact assessment, environmental impact assessment in agriculture and soil resources management in agricultural areas.
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area will devise new R&I approaches to improve water availability and sustainable agriculture production in a region heavily distressed by climate change, urbanisation and population growth
